What is International Mediation?
During conflict, the parties are not able to reach to an agreement. So, a third party steps in to resolve the conflict and help the conflicting parties reach to a mutual agreement. The third party can also be called as mediator.
International Mediator is known as a voluntary form of medium for conflict management, which is active in international relations. In other terms, International Mediation can also be defined as a comprehensive compromise. They also play an important role for ending the dispute or propose alternatives to resolve the same.

What is Multi-party mediation?
It is a scenario where more than one third parties come into picture to resolve a conflict. The examples are national government bodies, NGOs etc.
Advantage: This type of arrangement allows each party to participate based on their abilities and peculiarities which they use during various phases of conflict resolution.
Fundamentals in multi-party mediation:
- The most crucial part in this agreement is to acquire full cooperation from various mediators and also the synchronization of their actions to attain peace among the conflicting parties
- All the mediators should share a common objective
- The mediators should be well aware of the difference in view points of the conflicting sides
Stages of Conflict Resolution:
- Effective Communication: The basic step of a mediator would be to effortlessly communicate points from both the parties. This is necessary at the initial stage as the conflicting parties sometimes do not have a complete information about their opponent’s views
- Direct Involvement: Here, the mediator not only communicates, but offers solutions to resolve conflict
- Mediation muscle: Here, the mediator not only offers solutions, but also offers inducement which might persuade the parties to come to a solution
